Dreaming of cliff views, island hopping, sea sunsets or northern lights, then Annie’s Place, is the place for your self catering holiday in Orkney.

If you long for a holiday where you can meander along the coastline, walk or cycle for miles in any direction… or you just want to relax in the peace and quiet at the coast, then Annie’s Place will be your holiday retreat by the sea. In spring or summer just relax on our shoreline bench and enjoy the wonderful sunsets dipping into the sea.  Marvel at the fact that around midsummer the skies hardly darken at all!

In autumn and winter months, on clear nights, you can feast your eyes on the Milky Way immediately above your head and, if you are in luck, you may glimpse the wonders of the Northern Lights across the northern shoreline. In recent years there have been spectacular opportunities for The "Merry Dancers" to be seen from the shoreline at Annie's Place.

Staying at Annie’s Place in Palace Village, Birsay, you are in the centre of the original Norse capital of Orkney with many links to the past. Annie's Place is the ground floor of the listed Old Manse (built in 1761) which adjoins the kirkyard of the historic St Magnus Church where many visitors come in search of their Orcadian ancestors. The 16th Century Earls Palace is the view from your kitchen and living room windows. Annie’s Place is just 10 minutes walk from the tidal island of Brough of Birsay which, as well as wonderful seaviews, includes the remains of a Viking village.

All that Orkney has to offer is in easy access by car, including The World Heritage sites of Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe and Standing Stones of Stenness; these are a 15 minute drive away.

And the final touch for a dream holiday?… a good coffee shop with home baking nearby? Well then… just stroll over the bridge from Annie’s Place and a short distance up the road is the highly regarded Birsay Bay Tearoom. In addition, Palace Stores, the village shop in the centre of the village now provides outdoor seating for enjoying hot home-made lunches, hot or cold drinks, ice cream and baking. All this in addition to a wide range of both fresh and frozen groceries.
