There are a range of places for eating out while on holiday in Orkney and information about these can be found in the Tourist Information Centre in Kirkwall and on the orkney.com website . Orkney is famous for its quality meat and fish; most finds its way to top London restaurants but also can be bought in local shops in Kirkwall and Stromness for cooking in Annie's Place. You can order fish and chips in advance at the week-end from The Barony Hotel a few minutes drive up the road. Further afield, the restaurants are good to excellent. Guests comment very positively on the pizzas that can be ordered as take-aways at Eviedale Bakery in Evie about 15 minutes drive from Annie's Place. The Birsay Bay tearoom is a few minutes walk up the road and provides great lunches with baking and afternoon high teas until approximately 16.00hrs. Since Covid19 safety requirements came into place, the tearoom began taking bookings using the link on their Facebook page. Finally, you can link through to our village store, Palace Stores, to check out Ellis's homemade pies and sausage rolls as well as her range of home baking, milkshakes and ice creams. There are also ready made meals in the shop's freezer for last minute meal planning!
Are there places to eat, or takeaways if we do not fancy cooking for ourselves?

Anne and Robin were there to greet me and ensure Annie's Place had everything I needed and to let them know if I required anything just to let them know. Both were full of local knowledge and happy to give as little or as much information on places to visit and things to do during my stay. Nothing seemed like a chore the pride in what they do and the want for guests to have the best stay was evident.

An excellent facility all around. Easy access to walking area for the dog first and last thing. Comfortable, well maintained and well provided accommodation. Very friendly, informative and helpful owners close by to answer any queries. Couldn't better the experience.

We had another wonderful stay at Annie’s Place. The location is of course perfect but then again so is the quality of the accommodation and the helpfulness of hosts Anne and Robyn. We will be back.

This was my second visit and I have two more booked! Direct access to the sea from the end of the garden of this lovely, comfortable ground floor apartment is a huge plus, you can walk along the coastline from the front door. It was lovely to arrive on the late ferry and be greeted by a well heated and cosily lit home from home and a warm welcome from Anne and Robin.

Situated in Birsay, this is a perfect shoreline location to relax and unwind. There are fabulous walks on the doorstep and never a shortage of interesting birds to look out for. The accommodation is extremely well appointed and comfortable with an excellent kitchen, dishwasher and washer dryer as well as a relaxing fire in the lounge to sit by after a days exploring. It was a magical place to stay, and there's no doubt we will return as soon as we are able.

"We found Annie’s Place to be very central for getting to all parts of the island. The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything you needed. Anne & Robin were very helpful with lots of information about the island and what to see and do. Will definitely go back."

"Anne and Robin are amazing hosts even during the time of Covid they made sure we had everything we need with regular checkin via emails. Both have a wealth of knowledge on the local area to give us ideas on walks and local heritage attractions. On arrival we found Annie’s place spotless and welcoming with a government guidelines form completed. During our stay Annie’s place we found it was the perfect location for all our needs. Anne and Robin make it like a home from home and was always warm and cosy to come back to after a day outdoors."

Annie’s Place has everything you need for a comfortable stay and practical to with a washer/dryer, functional flooring etc without losing the homely sense. A welcome hamper including treats for our dog was waiting including fresh rolls and Orkney Butter in the fridge :) We will definitely book to stay again next year, it was a privilege to stay in such a historical village. "This lovely cottage met all my expectations, warm and comfortable and right by the sea, with Anne and Robin on hand to offer a great welcome and friendly chat and advice. It is in an absolutely lovely, quiet spot with coastal walks straight from the front door, seals, birds, sunsets, crashing waves, sunshine ... 1,000 mile round trip for me was more than worthwhile! "

"Our third stay at Annie's Place and it is as welcoming as ever. Anne & Robin take great care to ensure your comfort, even with the limitations created by a pandemic. They truly go the extra mile and it was a welcome return to somewhere that is starting to feel like home from home. The garden is stunning this year too!"

The cottage was very cosy and warm and welcoming. Anne, our host, could not have done more to welcome us. It’s a beautiful location, and would be fantastic in the summer with lovely weather.

I stayed at Annie’s Place on my own over the Christmas week. I made a great choice! The location is great for coastal walks, big and small. The accommodation is cozy. It has everything a daily life requires, in terms of kitchen utensils and dishes, hangers, towels, windows that can be locked if needed.... But even if you find there’s something missing all you have to do is ask. Anne and Robin, who run Annie’s place, are lovely lovely lovely people and praiseworthy hosts.
